Rattler Ford October 11-13th Stream of the Month

Perfect fall weather greeted 21 chapter attendees at Rattler Ford campground near Robbinsville, NC. Friday night Larry Vigil cooked up his famous jambalaya while Jeff Wilson prepared two delicious deserts in his Dutch ovens. The caramel chocolate and pineapple upside down cakes were to die for. Thankfully most people brought firewood for after dinner campfires tended by our chapter pyromaniac Wally Gardner. The cool temps and almost full moon made the evenings as fall-perfect as they could possibly be.

Low water levels did not deter all from heading out to their favorite streams and creeks. Some went to the Tuck, Snowbird and Nantahala DH’s, some in search wild trout in the smaller creeks. Overall the catching was mixed but the fishing was excellent.

Nelson Withers prepared Dutch oven lasagna for our main course Saturday tight to some very tired but happy anglers. As always his creation was better than any Atlanta Italian restaurant. Jeff added pumpkin cake cobbler to another caramel cake desert. All three cooks helped prepare some unique breakfasts both mornings. Bravo guys!

Some headed out to tackle different streams on their way home Sunday. While others pretended to do so but really had their spousal chores waiting at home. Thanks to all that attended and pitched in to make this one of the best SOTM’s of the year.

Trout Unlimited’s Mission

Trout Unlimited’s mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America’s coldwater fisheries and their watersheds. The Cohutta Chapter is one of 12 TU Chapters in Georgia.

By the next generation, Trout Unlimited will ensure that robust populations of native and wild coldwater fish once again thrive within their North American range, so that our children can enjoy healthy fisheries in their home water.
